Today, January 6, is the festival of the Epiphany in many christian traditions, a celebration that’s older than what we now have as Christmas. “Epiphany” means “revelation”, “striking appearance”, or “manifestation”. This inspires me to come to Life with questions based on this theme and to allow the tarot to respond to them.
- What wants or needs to be revealed to us at this time? XV, the Devil, reversed. Collective unconscious shadow material that contributes to our self-limiting feelings and behaviour.
- How can we best pay attention to it? 10 of Pentacles, reversed. Take a break from self-destructive urges; put self-abuse on pause; look before leaping into commitments that could be traps.
- In what life-sustaining way(s) can we employ this revelation? Ace of Swords, upright. Initiate a dialogue with the shadow (in the journal? with a therapist/guide? in a circle of trusted peers? other?); consciously stimulate conversations about shadow and limitations with one another; begin fresh, conscious lifestyles.
Seeing Trump XV reversed makes me think of these sayings:
- Demon est Deus inversus (the devil is god upside-down).
- The devil is merely the divine as seen by the unwise/uninitiated.
These inspire a fourth question: What divine gifts can be brought forth through the revelation of and dialogue with the shadow? XVIIII, the Sun, reversed. Our bright shadow (previously hidden “gold”/treasure); revitalisation of the human spirit; an epiphany of humanity’s True Core Self.
So powerful… Thank-you for sharing. This appears as a deeply personal reading so I appreciate you sharing it with your readers.
You’re welcome, Brigit. So often, when I do a reading for the collective, I get a lot of comments about personal it feels. Blessings on the revelation of your Divine Self!
Thank you James. I am finding that that is indeed the energy today, haven’t got my cards out yet, haven’t found the inspiration question yet. But your question did inspire. And I am grateful for that. And I will bet that I will get much the same. *sigh*
I’m curious about your *sigh*, Lisa. What brings it forth as you reflect on these cards?
I spent some time taking a bath today to engage this time. The three wise men and some other herbs in a pot and then the tub. I find sometimes just have a feel about them
If I had to choose a card I’d call it a 4 of disks kind of moment – both the bath and the time of year.
Nice post Mr. Wells.
What a nourishing way to spend time today, Andrew. Great card choice!
This describes well how the day went for me, James. Good read.
I wonder what the longer term ripples of this might be?
What I get from your reading is a bit more on the third card, the Ace. Charge to the confrontation! The further we get from solstice, the more light there is in our hemisphere, so your ability to challenge and defeat the lies and fear of The Shadow will only grow with time– if the challenge is taken up.
It’s interesting that the Ace of Swords is the only upright card. This, for me, underlines its importance AND it says that whatever this card means for you, it’s not merely private and reflective, but rather is something external and active.
Love this spread! For me the revelation was very direct and powerful insight. Very useful and will be using it again!
Thank you!
I’m happy that it was/is helpful to you, Sherry. Keep us in the loop about its further use in your life. Cheers!
